I must apologize for the weather in metro Detroit this year. Not to sound too egotistical but one of the things I prayed for on New Years was for more patience. Patience with myself and others. I don't know if you ever saw the movie, "Evan Almighty" with Steve Carell and Morgan Freeman. There is a scene in the movie where God is talking to Evan's wife Joan. God says, "... Let me ask you something. If one prays for patience, do you think God gives them patience? Or does He give them an opportunity to be patient? If they pray for courage, does God give them courage, or does He give them opportunities to be courageous? If one prayed for their family to be closer, you think God zaps them with warm fuzzy feelings? Or does He give them opportunities to love each other?" With this in mind blame the winter on me. When I'm sitting in traffic behind the person driving 25 MPH on an obviously clear road asking WHY???? (patience Tom). When I'm shoveling snow AGAIN WITH NO PLACE TO PUT IT! (Easy). When I'm looking at my now cracked garage floor because of the HEAVING FROM THE FROST or the constantly DIRTY CAR! (Deep breathes Tom) I have been presented many opportunities to work on my patience. We all have opportunities to work on some of our gaps. I prayed for patience and I have had plenty of opportunities to show my patience (Still working on it!). When we are faced with challenges and issues, it's an opportunity to grow. When you are stuck in traffic or with a cranky child or spouse or dead battery or whatever, look at it as an opportunity to improve. Next year I'm asking for help with my three putts and my driver on the golf course though! I'm off to shovel snow again.... working on my patience and cardiovascular health too.
