In physics, the property or tendency of a moving object to continue moving. For an object moving in a line, the momentum is the mass of the object multiplied by its velocity (linear momentum); thus, a slowly moving, very massive body and a rapidly moving, light body can have the same momentum. (See Newton's laws of motion.)

Your life and it's dreams and goals also follows Sir Isaac Newton's Law of Motion. Sometimes it's hard to make changes. It's hard to keep those New Years resolutions you made. It isn't easy to start something different.

However, once you get moving for a few days it gets easier. Starting that diet to lose a few pounds gets easier every day you keep it up. Going to the gym gets better after a few days of working out.

What's my point? Don't give up! It's not easy starting something that could change your life for the better. Every day you do it though gets easier to keep it going. You build that momentum and it gets easier every day. Commit to the change and you can do anything. You just need to make sure you do it long it enough to build your momentum. Once you're rolling you're unstopable.

The Oak Tree in Each of Us

Have you ever considered how an oak tree can grow out of an acorn? (OK, probably not....) The acorn is an inch or so in length and less than an ounce in weight. The oak tree though can grow over a hundred feet tall and be over three hundred feet wide.

How can something so large and impressive grow out of a small acorn? It's genetics. When each acorn is created the oak tree is there. Not every acorn will grow into an oak tree but the possibility is there for it.

We are the same way. In each of us is a seed of greatness. With our lives we can grow and do beautiful things. Unfortunately, sometimes we don't let this greatness grow. If we don't take care of ourselves and our spirit.

If we want though the greatness will grow. We need to want to share this greatness for it to grow. We need to strive to get better, work to grow. When we want we can do anything and be anything. We all have greatness inside and our responsibility is to grow it and share it. We need to make ourselves into the beautiful creatures God meant for us to be.

Take time today to plant your acorn, nurish it, and grow it. Show the world how impressive you can be.

Random Acts of Kindness

I was on my way home today and stopped at a gas station to buy a soda. Outside of the station was a homeless man I have talked to in the past. It's probably been a year or so since I've seen him.

He recognized me first and thanked me. When we spoke in the past I usually gave him any change I had and talked for a few minutes about sports, weather, or anything else. It wasn't anything big, I just treated him as a person and gave him respect.

What shocked me and made it hit home was that he remembered me and thanked me for doing that. He said it made a difference and helped him out. He is still struggling but he is still fighting too. He hasn't given up.

The reason I write this isn't to tell you about the things I do. It's to tell you that the things we do can make a difference in peoples' lives. The security guards at the mall, clerks in the stores, your neighbors, family, friends, and the people on the street. Everyone wants to be recognized as a person and appreciated for what they are. We all want people to look at us and see someone.

When you go about your day take the time to talk to people and listen. Look them in the eyes and listen to them. Let them know you care.

You can do it! We can do it!

What do you do with your time? Every person in the world has the same amount of time in the day (24 hours, 1440 minutes, or 86,400 seconds). The question is what do you do with your time?

Do you sit around and watch TV all day or do you read? Do you think you have all the knowledge you need or do you constantly try to learn more? Do you waste your time or do you invest it wisely?

The leaders in the world and the ones who make a difference invest their time. They realize that just like you need financial investments, you need to invest your personal time.

60 minutes watching TV or 60 minutes improving yourself? 1 hour doing nothing or 1 hour helping someone else out?

We need to treat our time like it really is, a treasure. We have limited time so we need to treat it like it's precious. Use it wisely and you will get many returns, not only to yourself but the world.

Meaning of Life

“Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather must recognize that it is he who is asked. In a word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering for his own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible.”  - Viktor Frankl

What is your meaning? What skills do you have? What gifts should you share?

When you ask what the meaning of life is are you asking yourself or looking to someone else?

Take time today to find your meaning and share it with others.

Everything you do, good or bad, has a double impact. When you say or do something in a positive way to someone the impact is twice the effort. When you do something that is positive and makes you feel good, the receiving person feels twice as good as you.

Unfortunately, when we do something that is hurtful the impact is doubled too. When we are thoughtless, it hurts someone twice as bad as you may feel. Consider Tiger Woods and what happened in the last week or so. I'm sure he feels remorse over what happened but his wife and family are hurt twice as bad as he feels.

One of Sir Isaac Newton's Laws states that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. While that may be true in the physical world it's not quite true with people. When you hurt someone they feel twice as bad. The good news though is when you make someone feel good about themselves they feel twice as good as you by helping.

A small thing really does go a long way!
